GMRC Presentation: The Spatial Dynamics of Global Media Monday October 27, 2008 The Spatial Dynamics of Global Media: Capital, Creativity, and Cultural Variation
The Global Media Research Center is pleased so sponsor a lecture with Dr. Michael Curtin of the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Monday, October 27th, at 4:30 p.m. in Communications 1032.
Advancing a theory of "media capital," this presentation explores the spatial dynamics of film and television industries. Moving beyond national frameworks, Curtin explores why certain cities-such as Hong Kong, Lagos, Miami, and Mumbai-have emerged as principal nodes of an increasingly globalized and multi-centric cultural economy.

His books include Redeeming the Wasteland: Television Documentary and Cold War Politics; Playing to the World's Biggest Audience: The Globalization of Chinese Film and TV; and Re-Orienting Global Communication: Indian and Chinese Media Beyond Borders (co-editor).
This is a free event and all are welcome. A system of taking attendance is in place if faculty would like to use this as an extra-credit opportunity for students. For more information, please contact Laura Germann at felix@siu.edu or 618-453-6876.
